The Friends of the Howe House Endorses the UN's Resolution on Slavery
Inspired by United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/80/L.48, the Friends of the Howe House recognize the James Howe House not merely as a historical relic, but as a tangible witness to the gravest crime against humanity. In alignment with this landmark 2026 resolution—introduced by the Republic of Ghana—we assert that the inhumanity of slavery was not a historical footnote, but a systemic framework that profoundly shaped the social and economic fabric of Montclair and the United States.
By preserving this home, we are actively practicing reparatory justice—ensuring the 'definitive break' in history is healed through truth-telling and the protection of Black history.
